Getting there the hard way: Property industry prepares to ride to MIPIM

Cyclists on Club Peloton

Cycle to Mipim logoThe property industry’s biggest charity challenge, The Legal & General Cycle to MIPIM, is about to get underway. On Thursday 10th March, 125 Lycra-clad professionals from the property industry will depart London for MIPIM: 1,450km and six days away.

To get there, they will have to climb the hills of Kent, face the crosswinds of northern France, cycle through agriculture landscapes known for their burgundy and Bresse chickens, enjoy the sunshine and scenery of Provence and finally, skirt the Mediterranean to arrive in Cannes. They will endure variable weather conditions and very long days in the saddle that will test both their physical abilities and mental reserves. Crucial to their success will be the camaraderie and support that develops during the event: every rider will ascribe to the ethos of ‘One for all and all for one’ so that everyone reaches Cannes together.

Headline sponsor Legal & General Investment Management Real Assets (LGIM Real Assets) is looking forward to the challenge. The event aligns with both its Health and Wellbeing agenda and its longstanding commitment to supporting sustainable, macro trends.

Bill Hughes, Head of LGIM Real Assets, commented, “After some tough training rides and full-on fundraising, I’m delighted to see a such a strong cross-section of the industry lined up and ready to take part in one of the real estate sector’s toughest sporting challenges. Lots are cycling to MIPIM for the first time, myself included, and I am looking forward to sharing the ordeal together over the next six days, whatever the weather and the roads throw at us. We’ll all meet new business contacts in a rarified environment, and I’m guessing we’ll all make some new friends for life. I’m already dreaming of arriving in Cannes where we can look back on the adventure we are about to have. Bring it on.”

The Legal & General Cycle to MIPIM will be raising money for Coram, the UK’s first children’s charity. This year, the eleventh of the event, it is hoped that the riders will achieve their biggest fundraising target ever.

Nick Hanmer, Chief Executive of organiser Club Peloton, commented, “The support that Cycle to MIPIM receives from the property industry every year is always incredible and this year is no exception. There are 125 very enthusiastic riders and a huge spread of companies representing all aspects of the industry who are very committed to this event. We’re very much hoping we hit our fundraising target of £325,000, which will go towards supporting Coram’s adoption services, finding homes for vulnerable children.”

Club Peloton is recognised for its highly professional, well-supported rides that give the cyclists an experience of what it’s like to be a pro-rider, with rolling road closures, support vehicles, moto outriders, mechanics and masseurs. The MIPIM ride is a flagship event for the property industry and it offers the opportunity to connect and network with fellow professionals, whilst also raising money for charity.

Two-thirds of funds raised by the ride will go to the principal charity partner, Coram. Article 25, Emthonjeni Trust, Multiple System Atrophy Trust and Tom’s Trust are the other organisations being supported.
