Investing in Croydon’s young people
It’s important that young people have somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to. We have pledged to support Croydon’s young people by becoming the latest Founder Patron of Legacy Youth Zone, with a £25,000 donation each year for the next three years.
Since opening in September, Legacy Youth Zone has already registered over 5,000 members, providing young people aged 8-19 and up to 25 with additional needs, with access to over 20 activities, seven days a week.
Giving young people state-of-the-art sports and leisure facilities
For just 50p per visit, members can enjoy access to a whole host of state-of-the-art facilities including an indoor climbing wall, four court sports hall, fully equipped gym, 3G kick pitch, dance & drama studio, boxing gym, arts and crafts studio and much more.
Legal & General will join Legacy’s family of Founder Patrons, a group of businesses, organisations and philanthropists united by their support to see local young people lead healthier, happier, more aspirational lives.
Supporting families in Croydon with good-quality affordable homes
On 2 March 2020 we also announced a further commitment of £21.6m to an innovative partnership with Croydon Council, providing hundreds of homes for families on housing waiting lists in the borough. The partnership, which is creating around £24 million in savings for the council, will bring 250 houses and apartments back into use for families currently residing in emergency accommodation. The announcement follows the establishment of the partnership last year, bringing Legal & General’s total investment to £66.2million.
Sara Heald, Head of Corporate Social Responsible said: “We are proud to be become a Founder Patron for Croydon Youth Zone. This is an important project alongside our wider commitment to the local area with our innovative partnership with Croydon Council to provide homes for families on the housing waiting list. This is an amazing place for young people to grow and help them reach their full potential while bringing the community together. All the staff and volunteers are committed to creating a safe environment for our youth of today and help them with the challenges that they may face.”
Barnabas Shelbourne, CEO of Legacy Youth Zone said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Legal & General to our family of Founder Patrons. It is only with thanks to organisations and individuals with the foresight of Legal & General that we are able to level the playing field and raise the aspirations of young people. Every penny of their generous gift will go directly towards supporting local young people, ensuring they receive the opportunities and support they truly deserve, for years to come.”
