James Shattock

As our UK Protection MD, James oversees our Group and Retail Protection businesses. He helps both of them deliver customer-centric products, supported by technological innovation, operational strength and strong distribution relationships.

James has a strong personal belief in the value that protection can bring to our customers and their families.

He joined Legal & General in 2020, coming on board as Retail Protection’s Commercial Director. That followed eight years at UNUM UK, where he rose through a range of pricing, financial and revenue roles to become Chief Underwriting Officer. Before that, he spent over a decade at Hannover Life Re and Standard Life.

James is married, with two children who have left home and two cockapoos who haven’t. In his own time, he enjoys collecting Parkruns. He has a MSc in Epidemiology and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.
