Nine S&P Capital IQ platinum gradings assigned
More platinum graded funds than any other UK index fund provider

Legal & General Investments (L&GI), one of the largest providers of index tracking funds in the UK, has retained S&P Capital IQ platinum gradings for nine of its index funds. L&GI has more platinum gradings than any other UK index fund provider, reflecting the business's depth of expertise and quality of index fund management.

To achieve a platinum grading from S&P Capital IQ, an index fund must demonstrate the highest standards of quality based on its investment process, risk management and consistency of performance compared to its benchmark index. S&P Capital IQ noted that L&GI has one of the 'best resourced' index tracker teams, with a 'pragmatic' approach that is 'more qualitative' than other index trackers, and that the funds continue to track their indices closely over the long term.

Dan Attwood, Proposition Manager, Retail Index Funds at Legal & General Investments commented: "As a responsible index fund provider, we take a pragmatic, common sense approach to managing funds. We aim both to track an index as closely as possible as well as to maximise performance for investors, using trading strategies designed specifically to minimise costs. The S&P Capital IQ gradings are testament to the expertise of our hugely experienced Index Funds team."

Simon Pistell, Managing Director of Investments, Legal & General Investments commented:

"We're delighted to have retained these gradings. The index fund range is a very important part of our business and one in which we are placing great emphasis this year. We recently cut charges on a number of our index funds* as a further commitment to providing investors with good value, and this has been incredibly well received. We expect to see further growth in the index fund industry during 2013 as advisers and investors take a closer look at the benefits inherent to tracker investments."

L&GI's funds that have been assigned a platinum grading are:

  • Legal & General UK Index Trust
  • Legal & General UK 100 Index Trust
  • Legal & General All Stocks Gilt Index Trust
  • Legal & General All Stocks Index Linked Gilts Index Trust
  • Legal & General European Index Trust
  • Legal & General Global 100 Index Trust
  • Legal & General International Index Trust
  • Legal & General Japan Index Trust
  • Legal & General US Index Trust

Legal & General currently has £269 billion under management in index tracking funds.

Legal & General Investments single country and regional index funds now have an Annual Management Charge (AMC) of 0.15% with core global index funds AMCs at 0.25%.
