Bill Hughes of Legal & General Property joins UK-GBC Board of Trustees.

02 October 2013

Bill Hughes, Managing Director of Legal & General Property (LGP), has been appointed to the UK Green Building Council’s Board of Trustees.

Bill, who joined LGP in 2007, has embedded sustainability into the core investment strategy of the business, making it an integrated part of everyday decisions.

LGP, a member of UK-GBC since 2008, is one of the UK’s largest institutional property fund managers, and collaborates with investors, tenants, partners and service providers to bring about significant reductions in emissions and waste.

Bill will join UK-GBC’s nine-strong Board of Trustees, a diverse group of leading industry figures who are responsible for overseeing the affairs of the charity.

Bill Hughes said: “I am delighted to take up the position of trustee to the UK Green Building Council, which I believe plays a very important role in raising awareness of the sustainability issues arising from the built environment and the real changes that can be made. It is only through engaging with the sector as a whole and Government, that progress can be achieved.

“This is not only about collaborating with policy-makers on behalf of the industry to ensure that legislation meets its intended goals, but working with the whole supply chain and the end occupiers to share information, develop plans and implement new approaches to the way in which we construct and operate our buildings.”

Paul King, Chief Executive of UK-GBC, said: “It’s great to have Bill joining the UK-GBC Board. He brings a huge amount of experience, insight and real commitment to our shared mission for a sustainable built environment.

“It is critical that we raise awareness and understanding of the business opportunities and risks that a shift towards sustainability brings, and the investment community is central in this. Bill’s leadership at Legal & General has already made a great contribution and I look forward to working more closely with him.”
