Legal & General invests into Yorkshire schools

Legal & General has delivered its Every Day Money programme in West Yorkshire this week. It’s part of a UK wide programme providing financial education to at least 200 teachers and 3000 students to better prepare them for their future during 2017.

Legal & General’s Every Day Money programme has been delivered in Airedale Academy, Bingley Grammar School, George Pindar School, Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School, and Gateways School.

The full day programme with each year group in each school makes an important contribution towards preparing the next generation for the challenges of adulthood. Our long term commitment to financial education is focused around getting 14 to 16 year olds ready for the world of work. We have reached over 4,000 young people currently across the UK. Working with ‘EdComms’, we have moved to focus our work on providing financial education for teachers as well as pupils.

The current programme has involved over 200 teachers from across UK with a common responsibility for integrating financial education into their schools. We see financial education as an important contribution to prepare the next generation for the challenges of adulthood.

This backing for education is part of Legal & General’s wider commitment to investing into Yorkshire, ensuring that it is also supporting the local economy and community around its direct investment activity. Legal & General’s investment into Leeds has reached well over £600 million over the last few years, helping to facilitate major urban regeneration projects and the delivery of housing, social care and infrastructure. Investments include the redevelopment of Headingley Cricket Stadium, the construction of a city centre Build-to-Rent scheme, a modular housing factory, and the Thorpe Park Leeds scheme, which includes unlocking thousands of much needed homes and the construction of the first section of the East Leeds Orbital Road, a key piece of road infrastructure. Legal & General has also invested in major retail and leisure backed schemes.

Sara Heald, Community Investment Manager at Legal & General, said: "We are very excited to be bringing Every Day Money to Yorkshire schools. We believe that it is vital for children to be educated about managing their money to prepare them for adulthood, often a topic that isn’t covered at school. Legal & General is committed to investing directly and indirectly into the UK and will look to roll this programme out in more Yorkshire Schools as well as other regions of the UK where we are invested."
