Progress in 2005: Health and Safety
As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, UK Facilities has reviewed the Health and Safety policies and procedures, and drawn up an action plan aimed at attaining OHSAS accreditation in 2006. In addition, a new contract has been put in place with a key service provider to provide competent health and safety advice, which will enable us to improve our health and safety culture.
Health and Safety Committees are now well established across the Group with key responsibilities and accountabilities. These committees meet on a regular basis, review accidents and incidents, monitor actions arising from audits and inspections, and take corrective actions.
As part of the review, computer based training (CBT) has been developed and is awaiting launch in 2006.
Also as part of the procedure review, and in order to reflect heightened public security, all bomb and fire evacuation procedures have been reviewed, revised and implemented. Additional training has been provided to fire wardens and this will continue in 2006. In partnership with Amicus, Legal & General has adopted a 'stress at work' policy and guidance and is identifying the training needs of managers and staff to support the implementation of the policy.
HR is in the process of monitoring mileage data to identify high risk groups or individuals. We are also reviewing the procedures for the occasional use of private cars. Guidance on driving has been provided on the Health and Safety Intranet.
