Progress in 2005: Employee Relations

  • Amicus and Legal & General continue to be members of the Dignity at Work Steering Group, a DTI/Amicus funded project aimed at preventing bullying in the workplace, on which Legal & General sits to share best practice. The 2005 Employee Satisfaction Survey included a question on whether employees considered their workplace to be free from bullying and harassment. The results were positive and have been shared with Amicus. The Andrea Adams Trust, a charity which promotes workplaces free from harassment and bullying, was invited to have a stand at our Kingswood site as part of our work with the Dignity at Work Steering Group.
  • We consulted with our Amicus representatives to produce a joint response to the DTI's consultation paper on Age Discrimination legislation, and will work with Amicus to implement the legislation by the end of 2006.
  • We are participating in a Department for Works and Pensions initiative to encourage employees to make or increase contributions to their occupational pension. Employees in our defined contribution schemes, who are either not contributing, or are not contributing the maximum amount, were invited to presentations to learn about the importance of making their own contributions, which Legal & General match up to a maximum of 5%. Employees were invited to sign a 'pledge' to start to contribute or increase their contributions six months after signing, to coincide with their pay increase. The DWP is researching the outcome of this initiative.
  • These presentations, run at all main sites, also explained to employees the effects that the April 2006 Pension Simplification legislation will have on staff pensions. The presentations were well received and a 'Question and Answer' site has been made available on the intranet for employees to access whenever they wish.
Amicus representative

"When I joined L&G I appreciated the union presence, having come from a career in telecommunications with no recognised trade union.  The culture of sharing information at all levels within Partnership appealed to me and reinforced my beliefs of a modern trade union environment where equality & trust are upheld in the workplace.

"I feel the Partnership at L&G works well and I feel a valued member of staff whilst also supporting and representing my colleagues within the business."
