Local Community Partnerships

During 2005 we increased our support for communities that are local to our main offices, because we believe this is where we have the greatest scope for making a positive impact. We have a Community Involvement co-ordinator at each of our major offices Birmingham, Cardiff, Hove, Kingswood and London, and they are responsible for identifying suitable funding opportunities and managing relationships with local community groups.

We apply the same guidelines and principles as for our Major Community Partnerships.

Employee 'Soupa Stars'
Staff fundraising for Crisis
Steve Barrey, Kingswood

In the run-up to Christmas a brand new fundraising initiative was piloted at our Kingswood and Hove offices. For one week, hundreds of staff swapped their usual restaurant meals for a more modest 'bread and soup' lunch to raise money for Crisis, the national charity for homeless people. The money raised during 'Soupa Star' week made a real difference to Crisis over the Christmas period.

"It was fantastic to get so much support from colleagues, staff and management for the 'Soupa Star' idea. Linking it to something as simple as buying a soup and roll made it easy for everyone to join in and highlighted just how easy it was for individuals to 'Make A Difference'.

"I was amazed at the momentum that was created from a simple idea. Raising money for such a worthy cause was made so easy with the support of colleagues in L&G. To have the funds raised matched by L&G was the icing on the cake."
