Our ability to invest our customers' money, including on behalf of pension funds, private investors, companies, charities, life companies, friendly societies and subsidiaries within the Group, is a crucial part of what we do.

Legal and General Investment Management (LGIM) is our investment business, it provides fund management expertise to our retail and corporate businesses, as well as to trustees of pension schemes and other institutional clients. LGIM is one of the leading fund management groups in the UK and the largest manager of UK pension fund assets, managing investments for the pension funds of almost half of the FTSE 100 companies (as at 30 June 2010).

In total, LGIM invests £320 billion worldwide (as at 30 June 2010), and is responsible for over 4% of the UK stock market on behalf of its clients, making it one of the largest investors on the London stock market. In addition it is also one of the largest London-based investors in overseas stock markets.
