1990

  • Sale of Victory reinsurance business to Nederlandes Reassurantie Group Holding NV

1991

  • Transfer of business of Legal & General (Unit Assurance) Limited and Legal & General (Unit Pensions) to the Society's long-term fund

1992

  • The Group transfers its UK investment business to the Society's long-term fund

1995

  • Joint venture with the Woolwich Building Society to provide Woolwich customers with a range of household, buildings and contents policies

1996

  • Legal & General Assurance Society's articles amended on 1 February to allow distribution to be made to shareholders which better reflects their interest in the life and annuity business
  • Sale of commercial lines general insurance business to Guardian Insurance a range of household, buildings and contents policies

1997

  • Legal & General Bank offers deposit accounts
  • Launched website

1998

  • Growth & Protection PEP sold £132 million
  • Legal & General Australia sold
  • Bank deposits total £942 million

1999

  • First company to provide Stakeholder pension guarantee
  • Electronic Company of the Year - Financial Adviser
  • Life Insurer of the Year - British Insurance Awards
